The lawmaker stated this in reaction to a visa ban the Trump administration placed on Nigeria.
“I’m a Trump fan (one of my favourite people in the world) but anything against my countrymen is against me personally. I hope he loses in November”.
When told that Trump’s action is aimed at putting his country first, Akin Alabi added:
“I really don’t think not banning Nigeria means he is not putting his country first. Meanwhile, of course he can put his country first. It doesn’t mean everyone must like that. I put my countrymen first. Especially my countrymen making a honest living there who want to regularize”.
Nigerians with honest means of livelihood in Americ, the lawmaker said:
“A lot of my countrymen are in America, making a honest living, paying tax and have plans to regularize their papers. If you have a brother in that situation, you won’t say this”.
On Trump and the coming election, he concluded saying:
“He’s the favourite no doubt. Nothing wrong with wishing another party wins. Is there anything wrong with it?”
