The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Mfon Bassey, has been quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The PUNCH gathered that he was arrested at his residence in Calabar on Thursday.
The Uyo Zonal Head of EFCC, Edeh Uchenna, confirmed this on Friday.
Uchenna said, “One Mfon Bassey, Commissioner for Environment is being investigated by EFCC. He was with us yesterday. And was with us this morning. And we are questioning him on certain allegations levelled against him.”
Uchenna added that “though we are investigating him, he is not in our custody. He only reported to us when we invited him and he has been honouring our invitations.
The EFCC zonal head, however, did not disclose the nature of the allegations levelled against Bassey, who was the former boss of Calabar Transportation Agency.
As of the time of filing this report, Bassey didn’t pick his calls. He also did not respond to a text message sent to him.
